She is often considered the first person to publish a book illustrated with photographs. there is also speculation that she was the first ever woman to create a photograph.  Anna Atkins had been taught by  William Talbot how to use his invention one being the photogenic drawing technique where an object is placed on light sensitised paper  is then exposed to the sun to make an image) and calotypeAtkins was known to have had access to a camera in 1841 giving into more speculation saying she was the first woman photography. some other sources imply that constanctalbot was first ever woman photographer because there is no archived photo's taken by Ann Atkins that have been archived.

While many early experimenters added to the creation of photography but Herschel brought his knowledge from astronomy and chemistry to make chemical compounds as well and the importance of the light spectrum in the processes of putting images on surfaces.
